From Summer to Fall: Refreshing Your Centerpiece

Here was my summer centerpiece arrangement before I made some changes for fall!

I kept it light and coastal all through spring and summer, but when fall arrived I was ready to layer in some warmth and texture. The key is not starting over, just building on what you already have with a few seasonal additions.

I found this wooden centerpiece bowl on clearance after Christmas one year. It was a Target Threshold item, but it isn't Christmassy at all! I cut off the long handles and stained it darker to better suit my style.

Tips for Styling Your Beachy Fall Centerpiece

Once you have your supplies, here are a few styling tips to make your centerpiece look intentional and full:

Work from back to front. Place your tallest elements at the back, like wheat stalks or a larger pumpkin, and layer forward with smaller pieces and your sign at the front.
Vary the heights. A flat arrangement looks one-dimensional. Stack a book or small wooden block under a pumpkin to create levels.
Odd numbers look better. Group pumpkins and accents in threes and fives rather than pairs for a more natural, collected feel.
Let the sign lean. Rather than standing your sign perfectly upright, let it lean slightly forward against a pumpkin or piece of driftwood. It looks more relaxed and intentional.
Refresh it through the season. Swap the sign as the season progresses. Start with "autumn" in September, move to "grateful" for Thanksgiving, then swap in a coastal Christmas sign for December. Same centerpiece, three seasons.
