That Time HomeGoods Featured My Coastal Fall Decor!
I can't believe I haven't written about this before, but yes, that HomeGoods! A few years ago, I was deep into overhauling my fall decor and went all-in on coastal fall.
At the time, I was on the hunt for pumpkins in coastal colors, blues and whites, to pair with a new line of coastal fall signs I was creating.
Back then, coastal fall wasn't really a thing. There were hardly any ideas for decorating and even fewer actual coastal fall decor pieces out there. I was kind of making it up as I went, which honestly is one of my favorite ways to create.
So I found myself making lots of trips to HomeGoods and TJ Maxx searching for those specific coastal-colored pumpkins. I collected quite a few, started experimenting with different arrangements, and of course added my signs to the mix. Then I shared all of it on social media!
One of my favorite arrangements was a dough bowl filled with those coastal pumpkins. I rearranged and restyled it throughout the fall season and even carried it through Christmas and other seasons with different signs. It became one of my most versatile and most photographed pieces.
Somehow, HomeGoods spotted one of my tagged photos and shared it, not just to their story, but right on their feed, tagging my account!
That was such a rush. I kept refreshing their post to watch the likes roll in. Of course, no post of mine has ever gotten as many likes as theirs did. The proof is in the many screenshots I was taking!
And as you can see, that's what they featured. Even though that's an older version of the wood I now use, you can still get that sign in my coastal fall sign collection. My style has evolved a bit since then, and I now lean more toward clean lines than rustic, but the coastal fall spirit is exactly the same.
I've been posting photos with those HomeGoods pumpkins ever since, so maybe I'll get another feature one day! 🤞
While my style has evolved, I've stayed true to focusing on calm, coastal colors for every season of decorating. Blues, whites, soft greens, and sandy neutrals work just as beautifully in fall as they do in summer. You just swap the seashells for pumpkins and the sea glass for gourds.
How to Create a Coastal Fall Dough Bowl
The dough bowl arrangement that caught HomeGoods' eye is one of the easiest and most impactful coastal fall displays you can create. Here's how to put one together:
- Start with a wooden dough bowl. Long, shallow dough bowls are perfect for this. The natural wood tone complements both coastal and fall elements beautifully.
- Add coastal-colored pumpkins. Look for blue, white, cream, and sage green pumpkins at HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, and craft stores in late summer and early fall. They sell out fast, so grab them when you see them.
- Layer in natural textures. Driftwood, pinecones, dried botanicals, moss, and small gourds add depth and a collected, natural feel.
- Add a handmade sign. This is the piece that ties it all together and gives the arrangement a focal point. A coastal fall sign in white, cream, or a soft color works beautifully propped against the back of the bowl or leaned in among the pumpkins.
- Finish with greenery. A few sprigs of eucalyptus, dried grasses, or fall leaves soften the edges and make the whole arrangement feel lush and intentional.

Coastal fall is all about bridging the gap between summer's breezy lightness and fall's warm, cozy energy. Here's how to nail the balance:
- Keep your color palette coastal. Swap out orange and red for blue, white, cream, sage, and soft terracotta. These colors feel fall-appropriate without losing the coastal vibe.
- Mix textures. Combine smooth coastal elements like sea glass and shells with fall textures like burlap, dried grasses, and rough-hewn wood.
- Use your signs year-round. A good coastal fall sign can carry you from September all the way through Thanksgiving. I love swapping signs in and out of the same dough bowl arrangement to refresh it throughout the season.
