Teacher’s loooove getting gifts!
If you don't have any teachers in your lives to gift, think of other people like neighbors, friends, that you need gifts for that you may not know really well!
Many of you may not know this about me, but I was a teacher for several years before becoming a sign maker! So I've gotten my fair share of good....and (sorry, kiddos!) not so good gifts!
So as a parent now, I try to be considerate of what things I would've liked as a teacher.
My #1 gift you should always give a teacher-
Gift cards.....AND a little something else.
Gift cards were ALWAYS my favorite thing. I was in my 20's and single during my teaching years so I appreciated any kind of gift cards, even things like movie theaters and restaurants were a special treat for me.
If you know their favorite small local shop or their taste in decor, giving them a gift card there and supporting local is great!
But I don't know a teacher who can't use a Target gift card which could cover school supplies, groceries, or a Starbucks coffee break and something special for themselves! Amazon gift cards are always a great idea too!
I always love to give gift cards AND something though, so I'm not just handing them a card, but to show that we've put a little more thought into it!
So here's my ideas for the "AND"
A large coffee mug- lots of gift guides say teachers have enough mugs.....maybe I'm just mug obsessed, but I LOVE getting mugs! I still have some from my students that are over 10 years oldL (and coffee mugs are also the most broken kitchen item in our house!! LARGE is they key word here, my small ones as cute as they could be, I just don't use! i need to be able to put lots of coffee in my mugs! Haha! So 15oz + mugs are the way to go! Rae Dunn mugs are a fave of mine and many of my teacher friends! AND they are hard to find so snag them for gift giving when you see cute ones at TJMaxx and Homegoods! Target always has cute ones too!
High quality school supplies- things like colored sharpies, colored Expo markers, felt tip pens things that teachers often have to purchase themselves, and usually the boring black ones because they are cheaper!
Fun classroom cleaning supplies- this is the time of year kids are ALL getting sick! Stock your teacher up with yummy smelling essential oils or a diffuser, cute tissue boxes (these buffalo check ones at Target are my current faves!), fun smelling soaps and hand sanitizers, etc.
Small candy or food items- You may or may not want to go with your own handmade goodies here. After all, teachers see your kids nasty, booger picking habits daily, and they may not find that sweet baked good very appetizing! But if you are known for some special treat, be sure to add that in! (I still dream of the chocolate cake I got every year for my birthday and Christmas from one family!!) Otherwise small candies, mints, items to make a teacher's breath fresh are always appreciated! (You can all name that one teacher that ALWAYS had bad breath from your school days, right?!)
Your Handmade items- If you have something you make, this is a great time to show off your skills by making something to go with the gift card! Just in case maybe whatever you've made ISN'T the teacher's style- no big deal- they got a gift card also!
Other Makers Handmade items- so you knew it was coming that I'd suggest my signs, right? :) This year I actually got something from another maker to gift, but I'll also be adding in a small sign for each teacher! Our girls have had the same teachers 2 years in a row so I've got to get creative! Buying something handmade to gift makes several people happy- as a maker we are thrilled with every purchase large and small, and the recipient is happy because they know you put some thought into the gift! We have lots of seasonal and year round small signs that make great gifts, and there are tons of other great makers out their with giftable ideas!
Hope you liked these suggestions or it at least gets you started thinking on what you need to buy this year!
Grab a gift card, one of the above gifts, throw them in a cute gift bag with some tissue paper and call it DONE!
